Sara Baras brings her flamenco dance to Tívoli
She is one of the most acclaimed contemporary flamenco dancers, and one of the most popular among the general public. Her shows go beyond pure flamenco, as is the case with La Pepa which you can see in March in the Teatro Tívoli in Barcelona.
The name refers to the nickname popularly given to the first Spanish constitution, written in Cadiz in 1812. Baras, who was born in the same Andalucian city, pays homage to the constitution on this bi-centenary of the event. In this flamenco-drama, given as part of the Festival del Mil·lenni, the artist and her troupe of dancers transmit the beauty of their land, the hardship and bitterness of the war that was being waged at that time against the invading French, and the desire of the people for freedom.
