When the going gets rough, the tough get rowing!
From 12.00 to 15.00 IOMRAMH Cultural Association presents the 5th Mediterranean Currach Regatta in the Port of Barcelona. Come and see these ancestral traditional boats in action! We have a LOT of crews travelling from Ireland for the occasion!
After the races, we will continue celebrating Saint Patrick’s weekend with Irish culture: Nights Around The Table traditional’s music and Aires Celtes Irish dancing, free for everyone in Moll de Bosch i Alsina (Moll de la Fusta) between Via Laietana and the Maremagnum bridge. Come have a taste of Irishness!
The currachs are hand-made boats that have been used by the inhabitants of West Ireland for centuries. Their design has helped civilisations exposed to harsh weather conditions and rough Atlantic waters survive. Today, people from all nationalities have shown interest in learning to row these boats in Barcelona, and a knowledge exchange has taken place.
IOMRAMH Cultural Association aims to establish links between cultures and highlight artistic and cultural values. With this event, we bring Irish maritime culture closer to the Mediterranean every year.
