The “Most Alternative” Festival in Town: Primavera Sound
Another major festival held in May in Barcelona is all about alternative sounds, from indie pop-rock to electronica. The crowd is a mix of locals and fans from all over the world, which come to see the big names the festival organizers attract. This year’s line- up promises not to disappoint: The Cure, Franz Ferdinand, Wilco, Björk, Rufus Wainwright, Death Cab for Cutie, Yo la Tengo, Spiritualized and Mudhoney are just some of the highlights. The festival takes place in the Parc del Fòrum from Thursday to Saturday but will also put on free opening and closing shows on a stage in the Arc de Triomf neighbourhood that will feature Saint Etienne, The Wedding Present, and Yann Tiersen on the Wednesday and Sunday. And that’s not all! To get things warmed up Sala Apolo on Avinguda Paral.lel will be putting on gigs in conjunction with the festival, although with lesser- known artists.
